Town History

Kindly, The Town of Sibley Welcomes You!

The Town of Sibley welcomes you with a small town smile, a lake of cypress trees, the roar of a historical railway, and pages of history.

Sibley is located on the US Hwy 371 in South Webster Parish in Northwest Louisiana.  The current population is approximately 1,218 and rising.  There are several businesses located inside town limits, 80% of which are locally owned and operated.  South Webster Industrial District, a half mile north of town, provides our area opportunity for industrial growth.

Bayou Dorcheat and Lake Bistineau border Sibley to the west.  Most of the Sibley area citizens may be caught pulling a boat to the lake or reminiscing about childhood catches.  This Sportsman’s Paradise has served as a recreational area for generations.

The Yellow Pines Community sits to the south of town.  This community has a rich history of saw mills and railroads.  The Yellow Pine Inn and the Yellow Pine Church are listed with the State Historical Society.

The roaring of engines on the Kansas City Southern line, east and west, may still be heard today.  For over 100 years, Sibley has both welcomed and endured the familiar sound of the old road-crossing horn.  Currently, Kansas City Southern is preparing these tracks for more daily train traffic than ever before.

When you come to visit Sibley or make it your home, remember if you scratch the surface just a bit, you’ll find the treasures beneath.

A town working together!
